
Lake County, IN – Troopers from the Indiana State Police Lowell Post conducted an overnight traffic enforcement blitz on I-80/94 in Lake County, starting at 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 4, and ending at 4:00 a.m. on Friday, July 5. The focus was on enforcing the work zone speed limit of 45 mph for vehicles entering Indiana from Illinois. Speeding has been a major factor in many crashes in this area.
According to the Indiana State Police, the blitz resulted in 47 traffic stops, leading to 18 arrests and a total of 27 criminal charges. Five individuals faced felony charges, and one arrest involved Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) with a child in the vehicle. Four motorcyclists attempting to flee were apprehended, and three out of four were arrested. Additional drivers were charged with Reckless Driving for excessive speeds over 100 mph.
