Lake County, IN: Trooper Injured During I-80 Pursuit Early Monday

Lake County, Indiana – An early morning police pursuit on Interstate 80 left an Indiana State Police trooper seriously injured in Lake County, prompting an ongoing investigation.

According to Indiana State Police, Trooper Jace Haddon was assisting the Lake County Sheriff’s Department around 3:30 a.m. Monday with an active vehicle pursuit on I-80 near the Kennedy Avenue exit. The pursuit was initiated after a reported traffic violation.

Police said the fleeing vehicle exited the interstate at Cline Avenue, where Trooper Haddon joined the pursuit near the intersection of Cline Avenue and Ridge Road. During the chase, Trooper Haddon successfully performed a Precision Immobilization Technique, or PIT maneuver, bringing the suspect vehicle to a stop.

After exiting his patrol vehicle and approaching the suspect vehicle on foot, Trooper Haddon was struck by another police vehicle, according to authorities.

Trooper Haddon was transported to a local hospital and treated for serious injuries. Police confirmed he has since been released but is expected to face a lengthy recovery.

Lt. Weems, commander of the Indiana State Police Lowell Post, said in a statement that officials are thankful the trooper is expected to make a full recovery.

No additional details about the suspect, potential charges, or the circumstances surrounding the collision have been released. Authorities emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing.

The incident caused temporary disruption in the Cline Avenue and Ridge Road area during the early morning hours, affecting commuters traveling through the corridor.
