Lake County, IN – Drivers in northwest Indiana should prepare for a temporary closure affecting a busy interchange next week.
According to the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), the ramp from Ridge Road to northbound I-65 will close for one day on or after Monday, September 15. The shutdown is required for highway lighting work at the interchange, which will also bring shoulder closures on nearby ramps.
Officials said the schedule is dependent on weather conditions and could change if rain or storms delay construction. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time and plan alternate routes to avoid delays. The interchange sits near Merrillville and Schererville, connecting heavy commuter traffic to I-94 and I-80/94, making it a key travel point for Lake County and the greater Chicago metro area.
INDOT recommends drivers stay alert for crews in the work zone and follow posted detour signs. Traffic updates will be shared on the agency’s social media channels and website as the project moves forward.
This short-term closure is part of ongoing maintenance designed to improve safety and visibility along the I-65 corridor.
