East Chicago, IN – On Thursday morning, East Chicago police were dispatched to 4105 Walsh Avenue to serve emergency detention order paperwork on an individual. Upon arrival, officers observed the individual pointing a firearm at their head through the front window of the residence.
Officers immediately surrounded the residence and requested assistance. Officers on scene also notified neighbors and advised them to shelter in place until the scene was secured. According to the East Chicago Police Department, the Northwest Regional SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiation Team were called to assist. They arrived promptly and made contact with the armed subject over the phone.
While talking to the subject, negotiators were able to convince the individual to exit the residence without incident. The subject was then transported to St. Catherine Hospital for an emergency detention order psychological evaluation.
