After four days of investigation, troopers executed a search warrant Friday morning at a residence in Griffith with assistance from the Northwest Regional SWAT Team. Police said the suspect was not home at the time, but officers seized a stolen firearm and drugs during the search.

Later that day, the suspect—identified as Nathaniel C. Malone, 23, of Griffith—was taken into custody by Griffith Police when he returned home. He was formally arrested and booked into the Lake County Jail.
