Dyer, IN – A 35-year-old man was shot and killed during a domestic disturbance in Dyer Sunday evening, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Department. Deputies say the shooting happened sometime after 5 p.m. in the 8600 block of Beall Street.
According to Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr., preliminary findings show the man had gone to the home to visit his child and the child’s mother when an argument broke out. Investigators say threats were allegedly made against the woman’s mother before the confrontation escalated.
Authorities believe a 52-year-old man who owns the home argued with the victim in the street before firing the fatal shot. The 35-year-old victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A firearm was recovered at the scene, and the 52-year-old man is being held for questioning as the investigation continues. The Sheriff’s Office confirmed the incident was isolated and that there is no danger to the public.
