Lake County, IN – An Illinois man was taken into custody early Monday morning after allegedly leading Indiana State Police on a high-speed chase that reached 150 mph before crashing in Lake County.
According to the Indiana State Police Lowell Post, Trooper Haddon spotted two vehicles racing eastbound on I-80 near Burr Street around 12:40 a.m. One of the drivers, behind the wheel of a black 2018 Infiniti, allegedly refused to stop after being clocked at 136 mph in a 55 mph zone.
Police say the driver, later identified as Brayan Guerrero, 21, of Calumet City, Illinois, turned off his headlights and continued southbound on I-65, accelerating to 150 mph. The pursuit ended when Guerrero’s vehicle crashed at a roundabout near 109th Avenue. He was taken into custody without further incident.
Investigators also discovered Guerrero was wearing a GoPro camera that appeared to have been recording during the chase. After receiving medical clearance, he consented to a blood draw and was later booked into the Lake County Jail.
Guerrero faces multiple preliminary charges, including resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, reckless driving, operating while intoxicated, and competing in a speed contest. Several traffic infractions were also cited.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Department, Crown Point Police, Winfield Police, and Crown Point Fire Department assisted in the incident. Final charges will be determined by the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office.
