Hobart, Indiana – A 13-year-old boy died after sustaining multiple blunt force injuries, prompting a coroner investigation near U.S. Route 6.

According to an official press release from the Lake County Coroner’s Office, investigators were notified at 10:24 p.m. Saturday and dispatched to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Hobart following the death of a juvenile patient.

The deceased was identified as Oliver Ball-Reed, a 13-year-old male and resident of Hebron, Indiana. Family members made a positive identification at the hospital, officials said.

The coroner’s office reported that Ball-Reed sustained multiple blunt force injuries. The manner of death was ruled an accident, pending further examination. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 2, at the Lake County Forensic Center in Crown Point.

The incident that led to the injuries occurred at 709 N. Hobart Road in Hobart, near US-6 and Interstate 80, according to the release. Ball-Reed was pronounced dead at 9:59 p.m. by an emergency room physician.

Multiple agencies responded and assisted during the incident, including the Hobart Police Department, Hobart Fire Department, and Portage Fire Department.

Officials have not released additional details regarding the circumstances leading up to the injuries. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities stated that more information may be provided following the completion of the forensic examination.

The incident resulted in a law enforcement and emergency response presence along Hobart Road, a frequently traveled route connecting US-6, I-80, and nearby residential areas.
