Merrillville, IN – Merrillville police officers were injured early Tuesday after a high-speed pursuit of a stolen vehicle ended on the Indiana Toll Road.
Officers responded to a call about a stolen car near East 83rd Avenue. The vehicle was located on Broadway but fled when police attempted a traffic stop. The chase continued onto Interstate 65 and the Indiana Toll Road.
According to the Merrillville Police Department, the suspect’s reckless driving created an immediate threat to motorists. Officers disabled the vehicle on the eastbound Toll Road, preventing it from crashing into other cars.
Three Merrillville officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the incident and were hospitalized. Police vehicles were also damaged. The suspect was taken into custody at the scene.
The department expressed gratitude to the Lake County Sheriff’s Department and the Gary Fire Department for their assistance.
