Gary, IN – A 33-year-old Indianapolis man was fatally shot in Gary on Monday, authorities confirmed. Deon Hawkins was identified as the victim after being transported to Northlake Methodist Hospital Emergency Room. He was pronounced dead by an emergency room physician at 11:19 a.m.
Lake County Coroner’s Office and the Medicolegal Death Investigation team responded to the incident. Hawkins, who lived in the 4900 block of Brock Street, Indianapolis, sustained a fatal gunshot wound. His family positively identified him at the hospital.
The shooting occurred at 5037 W. 19th Pl., Gary, IN. According to the Lake County Coroner’s Office, the death was ruled a homicide. A forensic autopsy was conducted at the Lake County Forensic Center in Crown Point on Tuesday.
