Lake County, Indiana – Overnight lane closures are scheduled on Interstate 65 for pavement marking work, affecting traffic through early and mid-March.
According to INDOT Northwest, the first closures will occur from approximately 8 p.m. Thursday, March 5, to 5 a.m. Friday, March 6. Crews will remove temporary pavement markings installed during 2025 construction. The two right lanes will be closed in each direction during that time.
Additional overnight closures are scheduled to begin on or after Monday, March 16, for permanent pavement marking installation. Work will take place between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. over the course of two evenings. INDOT said the two right lanes will close the first night, followed by closure of the two left lanes the second night.
The work is weather dependent, and schedules may change based on temperature and painting conditions. INDOT noted that permanent pavement markings are often delayed until late winter or early spring due to temperature requirements for application.
The affected stretch runs through portions of Merrillville and Hobart, where drivers should expect reduced lanes and possible slowdowns during overnight travel. Commuters and overnight freight traffic along the I-65 corridor are advised to plan for delays.
