Lake County, IN Homicide: Officials Confirm Hammond Woman Died by Asphyxiation

Hammond, IN – Authorities are investigating a homicide after a 37-year-old woman was found dead inside her Hammond home Sunday evening, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

The coroner’s medicolegal team was dispatched around 7:42 p.m. on October 5, 2025, to a residence in the 1300 block of Summer Street in Hammond. Officials identified the deceased as Kimberly Murphy, 37, following positive identification by family members at the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

According to the release, a forensic autopsy was performed Monday, October 6, at the Lake County Forensic Center in Crown Point. The cause of death was determined to be asphyxiation and blunt force trauma, and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.

The body was pronounced deceased by the coroner’s investigator at 8:10 p.m. Sunday. The Hammond Police Department is leading the investigation. No further details or suspect information were released as of Monday morning.
