Schererville, IN – A Lake County correctional officer was killed early Saturday morning after a crash at Route 30 and Austin Avenue in Schererville, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Department.

The department said the officer, who was off duty at the time, was struck by another vehicle and flown to a Chicago hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The officer had served with the Lake County Jail for nearly nine years.
