Wadsworth, IL – A late-night traffic stop in Lake County led to a high-speed pursuit into Wisconsin, the arrest of three people, and the recovery of multiple firearms and suspected cannabis.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began around 12:20 a.m. Monday when a deputy stopped a vehicle on Route 41 near Route 173 for traveling 19 mph over the speed limit. Authorities said the driver, identified as Jordon Cunningham, 25, of North Chicago, was asked to exit the vehicle after the deputy smelled cannabis. Instead, Cunningham allegedly accelerated and struck the deputy with the vehicle’s door before fleeing north on I-94 into Wisconsin.
Wisconsin authorities joined the pursuit, reportedly reaching speeds over 120 mph. Deputies deployed a tire deflation device, stopping the vehicle near I-94 and 104th Street, where Kenosha County deputies took Cunningham and two passengers into custody.
During the chase, officials said an AR-15 rifle, two pistols, and a large bag containing smaller cannabis packages were allegedly thrown from the vehicle. Wisconsin authorities are handling those charges.
Lake County deputies have obtained an arrest warrant for Cunningham on charges including aggravated battery to a peace officer, aggravated fleeing to elude, and multiple traffic offenses. He remains in custody in Kenosha County on Wisconsin charges.
All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
