Lake County, IL: Waukegan Man Killed, Zion Teen Wounded in Zion Shooting

Zion, IL – A shooting on Gilead Avenue in Zion left one man dead and another critically injured early Thursday morning. Police responded to 911 calls reporting gunfire in the 2500 block just before 8 a.m. Officers nearby also heard the shots and arrived on scene shortly after.

According to a statement from Zion Police, officers found a 19-year-old Waukegan man and an 18-year-old Zion man with gunshot wounds. Both were rushed to nearby hospitals. The Waukegan man was pronounced dead shortly after arriving. The Zion man remains in surgery as doctors work to save his life.

Authorities believe the shooting was targeted and have reassured the public there is no ongoing threat. Zion Police, along with the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force, are actively investigating the incident.
