Lake County, IL – Thousands Rounds of Ammunition, Guns Removed from Home after Mental Health Episode

Wakanda, IL – Authorities removed thousands of rounds of ammunition and multiple guns from a man’s home following a mental health episode on Monday night according to the Lake County Sheriff’s deputies it happened Monday evening around 5 PM in the 27700 block of North Orchard Drive.

According to Lake County Sheriff’s Department reports, deputies arrived on the scene and they encountered reportedly suicidal individual holding a weapon outside of his home. Utilizing de-escalation techniques, deputies worked with the man before he eventually disarmed himself and left the area where the weapon was kept before being transported to a local area hospital for a mental health evaluation.

“Mental health related calls are at an all-time high. Our deputies yet again slowed down the situation,”  Sheriff John D. Idleburg said.  “This is an example of what they do every single day. I am very proud of all of those involved in deescalating this tense situation.”

Following the episode, a clear and present danger form was submitted with Illinois State police.  This led to the removal of thousands of rounds of ammunition and multiple weapons from the man’s home.
