Gurnee, IL – An 18-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting a 61-year-old family member in the face at a home in unincorporated Gurnee.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 8:35 p.m. Wednesday to a residence on the 34000 block of Route 21 for a report of a person shot. Upon arrival, they found the older man with a gunshot wound to the face. He was transported to a regional hospital and is expected to survive.

Detectives allege the victim was in his bedroom using his cellphone when he was shot by Francis Lodesky, who also lives at the residence and is related to the victim. Investigators believe the shooting was unprovoked and that Lodesky had expressed a desire to kill someone, according to statements collected during the initial inquiry.

The weapon used in the incident was identified as a .410-gauge revolver loaded with birdshot. Authorities said the firearm was recovered at the scene, along with more than 50 other firearms, which were also collected as evidence.

Lodesky was arrested at the home and taken into custody by the Lake County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division. The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office has approved charges of Attempt First Degree Murder and Aggravated Battery with a Firearm. Additional charges could follow, pending further investigation.

He remains held at the Lake County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning. Prosecutors are expected to seek his continued detention while awaiting trial.

All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
