Wauconda, IL –
A Wauconda Police Department K9 is being praised for helping locate an unconscious man in a heavily wooded area after a tense search involving multiple agencies.
According to the Wauconda Police Department, K9 Skye and her handler, Officer Nardulli, were called in by a neighboring agency on Tuesday afternoon to help find a man who had fled from an apartment complex. The individual was reportedly under the influence of narcotics and threatening suicide with a firearm.
Skye and Officer Nardulli entered the wooded area and began tracking the man’s scent. Police said Skye alerted her handler to the man’s presence and led officers across a swamp directly to the unconscious individual.
Authorities said the man was safely located and transported to a hospital for mental health treatment without further incident.
“Thanks to Skye’s incredible tracking skills and teamwork with officers, the subject was safely located,” the department wrote in a Facebook post praising the K9’s efforts.
