According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, detectives arrested Elias Carballido, 18, after receiving a cyber tip from a social media provider indicating a device in Lake County was suspected of containing child pornography. Investigators determined the activity was likely originating from a home in the 200 block of Sheridan Avenue in Highwood.
Sheriff’s detectives obtained a search warrant for the residence and executed it on January 22, 2026 (Thursday), with assistance from the Illinois Attorney General’s Office and the Highwood Police Department. The Lake County Sheriff’s Electronic Detection K9, Enzo, also assisted during the search.
Authorities say detectives seized multiple electronic devices during the operation. A subsequent forensic review allegedly revealed dozens of images and videos depicting child pornography, many involving children under the age of 13.
Following a review of the evidence, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved seven felony counts of possession of child pornography, all Class 2 felonies. Prosecutors noted that additional charges remain possible as the investigation continues.
