Gurnee, IL – Gurnee Police are investigating a violent series of connected incidents Saturday morning along Grand Avenue that left two people injured and a woman in custody.

According to the Gurnee Police Department, the chain of events began shortly after 10 a.m. near the 6100 block of Grand Avenue, where a vehicle allegedly struck a 79-year-old man standing near his car in a parking lot. The driver then hit a 60-year-old woman before fleeing the scene.

Police said both victims were hospitalized — the man with serious injuries at Advocate Condell Hospital and the woman with non-life-threatening injuries at Lake Forest Hospital.

While canvassing the area, officers encountered a physical disturbance nearby in the 6400 block of Grand Avenue involving a man and a woman. Police say the female suspect allegedly became aggressive when confronted, prompting an officer to deploy a taser before taking her into custody.

Investigators later determined the woman was the same driver involved in the earlier hit-and-run. She was identified as a 25-year-old from Waukesha, Wisconsin. According to police, she had allegedly approached another driver in a nearby lot, slashed his tire with a large butcher knife, and attacked him before he managed to restrain her. The man suffered several lacerations to his hands.

Authorities believe the incidents were random acts of violence, and there is no ongoing threat to the public. Detectives continue to investigate, and charges are pending.
