Fox Lake, IL – A Lake County couple was arrested after deputies allegedly discovered their children living in filthy conditions in a Fox Lake basement, where investigators also uncovered child pornography in the father’s possession.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, detectives executed a search warrant on August 14 after receiving a tip from an online cloud storage platform indicating that child pornography had been uploaded from a device in the county. Investigators said they found three children, all under the age of three, living in a basement that was allegedly covered in urine, feces, and animal waste.
Authorities reported that the children’s father, identified as Logan J. Jentink, 29, was arrested and charged with three counts of child endangerment, five counts of animal cruelty, and later, seven counts of possessing child pornography after investigators searched his phone. The children’s mother, Sandra J. Zaluski, 23, was also charged with three counts of child endangerment and five counts of animal cruelty.
The Department of Children and Family Services was contacted, and the children were placed into the care of another guardian. Deputies also found several neglected animals in the basement, including iguanas, a turtle, a bearded dragon, and two dogs. Some of the animals appeared close to death from malnutrition, according to authorities. Lake County Animal Care and Control took custody of the animals.
Jentink remains in custody at the Lake County Jail, while Zaluski was released after a court hearing with pre-trial conditions. Both face additional court proceedings in the coming weeks.
Sheriff John D. Idleburg commended investigators, saying their efforts helped protect the children from further harm.
