Beach Park, IL – Swift intervention by Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies Monday afternoon stopped a violent attack and potentially saved the life of an elderly woman.

At approximately 4:25 p.m., deputies responded to a 911 call from a home in the 38600 block of North Lewis Avenue. The caller reported that Keith MacDonald, 33, was reportedly armed with a knife and allegedly threatening to kill everyone inside. According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrived to find MacDonald reportedly standing over an elderly woman who was lying on the floor.

Believing the woman to be in imminent danger, deputies forced entry through a locked door and subdued MacDonald. Investigators say the incident began when MacDonald became enraged over news of a family-initiated eviction and grabbed a knife from the kitchen, chasing a woman through the house.

A one-year-old child was present during the attack but was unharmed. MacDonald faces charges including aggravated battery to a person over 60, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and child endangerment.

Sheriff John D. Idleburg commended his team for their quick and decisive action. “Our deputies’ bravery and teamwork prevented a potential tragedy,” Idleburg said.

A detention hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
