Lake County, IL – Two Lake County Sheriff’s Office K9 teams earned top honors at the United States Police Canine Association (USPCA) Region 19 Police Dog I Regional Trials, held October 23–27 in Sterling Heights, Michigan.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, more than 30 K9 teams from across the region competed in events testing patrol, tracking, narcotics detection, and cadaver recovery skills. Deputies Kevin Harris with K9 Zeus and John Forlenza with K9 Lux both achieved standout results, placing among the best in multiple categories.

Deputy Harris and K9 Zeus won 1st Place Overall in Tracking, 2nd in Narcotics Detection, and 2nd in Cadaver Detection. Deputy Forlenza and K9 Lux earned 1st Place in Cadaver Detection, tied 1st in Room Search Narcotics, and 3rd Overall in Patrol Dog performance.

Due to their results, both Lake County teams are now qualified to compete in the 2025 National Field Trials scheduled for November.

USPCA Region 19 represents police K9 handlers across several U.S. states and Ontario, Canada, with a mission to raise professional standards in police canine work.
