Lake County, IL – A violent home invasion in Beach Park has led to the arrest of a 47-year-old man and the recovery of firearms, cocaine, and a large amount of cash, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded at approximately 8:05 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, to a manufactured home in the 38200 block of Sheridan Road in Beach Park after reports of a home invasion. Inside, deputies found a 67-year-old man suffering from serious injuries to his face and body. He was transported to a nearby hospital, treated, and later released.
Investigators say the victim reported that a former neighbor, later identified as Brian Wisch, 47, allegedly forced his way into the home through a glass storm door while armed with a firearm. Authorities say Wisch allegedly demanded money, took several hundred dollars, and repeatedly struck the victim with a pistol before fleeing.
Deputies searched the area but were unable to locate Wisch that night. On Friday, January 9, detectives located him in the 16400 block of Russell Road in Wadsworth, according to officials. Wisch was found with a gunshot wound to the stomach and was taken to a hospital, treated, and released.
Detectives later determined Wisch was allegedly shot by the victim during the home invasion after the victim retrieved a firearm. Investigators say Wisch continued fighting, took the victim’s gun, struck him multiple times, and then fled on foot. Both firearms were later recovered.
During the investigation, detectives learned the victim was allegedly selling drugs from the residence. A search warrant was obtained, leading to the seizure of nearly two pounds of cocaine and approximately $50,000 in cash, authorities said.
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office has approved charges against Wisch, including three counts of Home Invasion (Class X felonies), two counts of Armed Robbery (Class X felonies), and Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon (Class 3 felony). Drug-related charges against the victim are expected.
Wisch remains held in the Lake County Jail pending a court hearing. All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
