Gurnee, IL – A serious traffic collision in Gurnee has claimed the life of a 63-year-old Grayslake woman. The accident occurred on Tuesday at approximately 11:50 a.m. at the intersection of Route 41 and Delany Road, involving a semi-truck and a Honda sedan.
According to the Gurnee Police Department, the Honda was traveling southbound on Route 41 and was positioned in the left turn lane for northbound Delany Road. For reasons still under investigation, the Honda unexpectedly exited the turn lane and crossed into the southbound lanes of Route 41. The vehicle was then struck by a southbound semi-truck, forcing it through the intersection and into a pole.
Gurnee Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and worked to extricate the driver, who was trapped inside the vehicle. The woman was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where she was later pronounced dead.
The Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) has been called to assist with the ongoing investigation. The Gurnee Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances leading up to the fatal crash.
