Zion, IL – A Chicago teen was discovered critically wounded on Joanna Avenue last weekend.

According to Zion Police, officers responding to gunfire reports on March 30, found the 17-year-old with no apparent ties to the area, suffering from a neck gunshot wound. Despite the quick actions of emergency services and transport to a local hospital, the victim remains in critical condition.

Compounding the violence, Police were called to the area again the following day, where a 17-year-old girl was shot in the foot, just blocks away from the first incident. Officers report the two shootings appear connected, with gang affiliations suspected in both cases.

As street crime detectives delve into the incidents, community tensions are high, with concerns about gang activity in the otherwise quiet city. Detective Lt. Paul D. Kehrli highlighted the urgent need for witness cooperation to aid the investigation and bring justice to the affected families. The police ask anyone with information to step forward and contact the Zion Police Department or Lake County Crime Stoppers.
