Beach Park, IL – A 20-year-old Beach Park man was arrested late Thursday night after allegedly firing a gun during an argument at a residence on West 29th Street.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the scene around 10:30 p.m. after reports of shots being fired. Authorities said Jesus Machuca-Barragan, who lives at the residence, had an argument with an acquaintance before leaving the property. As he drove away, Machuca-Barragan allegedly fired multiple shots from his vehicle, though investigators did not find any evidence of bullet damage.
A description of Machuca-Barragan and his vehicle was broadcast to local law enforcement, and Waukegan police apprehended him at a gas station near Route 120 and Jackson Street shortly after. Officers reportedly found a pistol in his possession and another firearm along with spent shell casings in his vehicle.
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office has charged Machuca-Barragan with three counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and reckless discharge of a firearm. Officials have also filed a petition to detain him while awaiting trial.
As children were present during the incident, the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services has been notified. Machuca-Barragan is scheduled for his first court appearance today.
