Riverwoods, IL – Police have announced an arrest in connection with the discovery of infant remains found more than five years ago in a wooded area of the village.
According to the Riverwoods Police Department, officers identified the suspect as Natalie E. Schram, 40, formerly of Riverwoods, Illinois. Schram, who now resides in Bellingham, Washington, was taken into custody on December 3, 2025, after investigators linked her to the remains discovered on May 5, 2020, near the 1800 block of Robinwood Lane.
Police said the remains were confirmed to be those of a newborn infant. Following years of investigation, authorities determined Schram was the individual who gave birth to the deceased child.
Schram faces multiple Class 4 felony charges, including two counts of concealment of death, abuse of a corpse, and failure to report the death or disappearance of a child under 13. She was booked in Whatcom County, Washington, and released on December 4 after posting $250,000 bond and agreeing to extradition. She is expected to turn herself in at the Lake County Courthouse on December 11, 2025.
Police emphasized that the case remains under investigation and urged anyone with additional information to contact Chief Bruce Dayno online or 224-284-2332.
