Lake County, FL – Nearly two decades after a violent home invasion and sexual assault, Lake County authorities have identified a suspect using advanced DNA genealogy technology.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, 47-year-old Larry Franklin Tucker Jr. has been charged in connection with the October 22, 2007, attack, during which a woman was reportedly assaulted for more than two hours inside her home.

Despite collecting DNA evidence at the time, the case remained unsolved for years due to technological limitations. The recent collaboration between the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Parabon Nanolabs, a company specializing in genetic genealogy, ultimately led to a breakthrough. Using a DNA composite that predicted physical traits, investigators connected Tucker through national DNA databases.

Tucker, who was wanted on a probation violation related to domestic violence, was extradited from Ohio to Florida. He now faces multiple charges, including sexual battery, burglary, and kidnapping. While the statute of limitations had technically expired, Florida law permits prosecution when DNA evidence identifies a suspect.

Authorities are now reviewing other unsolved cases to determine whether Tucker may be linked to additional crimes.

“She took a really big deep breath… that was the first time she’s been able to breathe in so many years,” said Corporal Zachary Williams, Major Crimes Supervisor for the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Misty Gillis, a genetic genealogist with Parabon, said solving the case underscores how modern DNA tools are giving long-awaited answers to victims.

“This case shows how far we’ve come—and how many more victims may finally see justice,” she said.
