Lake County Deputies Save Man from Hanging in Gurnee Garage

Gurnee, IL – Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies saved a man attempting self-harm in unincorporated Gurnee late Wednesday.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a 911 call from the man’s wife around 10:30 p.m. The man, experiencing mental distress, had locked himself in a detached garage and threatened to hang himself. Deputies forced entry into the garage, found the man hanging, and quickly acted to relieve pressure on his neck and cut him down.

Paramedics transported the man to a nearby hospital, where he was breathing and had a pulse. Sheriff John D. Idleburg praised the deputies for their heroic actions and reminded the community that help is available through 988 or the Lake County Crisis Care Line.
