Zion, IL – Zion Police Department officers swiftly responded to a violent armed robbery at Jewel-Osco on 1400 21st St. last Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
The suspect, identified as 46-year-old Kebron Dennis, allegedly homeless but residing in and around Zion, stormed into the store, allegedly stole liquor, and attacked employees with a crowbar when they attempted to stop him. Despite the employees’ brave efforts, Dennis managed to flee the scene before officers arrived within a minute of dispatch.
According to the Zion Police Department, while officers were interviewing the shaken employees, other officers combed the area and located Dennis in the 2200 block of Enoch Ave. Following police commands, Dennis disarmed himself and was taken into custody. The reported stolen merchandise was then reportedly recovered.
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office has charged Dennis with armed robbery and enhanced retail theft, both felonies. He was held for a First Appearance Court hearing on June 28, where he was denied pretrial release and remains in the Lake County Jail.
