Lake County Coroner Probing Unidentified Man’s Death in Hammond

Hammond, IN – Authorities are investigating after an unidentified man was found dead at a residence on Shell Street in Hammond, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

Officials were dispatched to 1476 Shell St. on Thursday, March 13, at 11:44 a.m. after receiving a report of a deceased individual. Preliminary autopsy results found no signs of foul play or trauma, though the official cause and manner of death remain pending.

The deceased, identified as a male, has been given a tentative ID, but final confirmation is awaiting DNA testing. His family has been notified, and the identification will be released once confirmed.

A forensic autopsy was conducted at the Lake County Forensic Center in Crown Point on Friday, March 14. The Lake County Coroner’s Office pronounced the individual deceased at 12:55 p.m.

The Hammond Police Department is assisting with the investigation. Further updates will be provided as authorities complete their review.
