Gary, IN – George Griffin III, 32, of Gary, was identified by his family after he was pronounced dead following a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian.
According to the Lake County Coroner’s Office, Griffin was struck at the intersection of 4th Ave. and Grant St. in Gary on Thursday at approximately 6:34 a.m. He was transported to Northlake Methodist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:59 a.m. by the emergency room physician.
A forensic autopsy performed at the Lake County Forensic Center in Crown Point on Friday confirmed that Griffin sustained multiple blunt force traumatic injuries. The autopsy report classified the incident as a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian.
The Gary Police Department and Gary Fire Department are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident. Authorities have not released information on the driver involved in the collision or the events leading up to the accident.
