Lake County Christmas Eve Crash: Passenger Killed After Jeep Slams Into Home

A Christmas Eve crash in Lake Villa left one man dead and two others seriously injured. Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene on the 21300 block of West Engle Drive at 7:25 p.m.

Marcos Corona-Vargas, 31, of Round Lake Beach, drove a Jeep into an unoccupied home after veering off the road. Witnesses report the Jeep crossed lanes before slamming into the house, causing significant damage.

A 22-year-old passenger in the front seat died at the scene. Another 22-year-old, seated in the back, sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a local hospital. Corona-Vargas also suffered serious injuries.

Investigators determined Corona-Vargas was driving under the influence of alcohol. He now faces charges of reckless homicide and DUI. Once released from the hospital, he will be transferred to the Lake County Jail.

The Lake County Coroner is scheduling an autopsy on the deceased passenger. Sheriff’s investigators continue examining the crash.
