Lake Charles, LA – A wet start to the week is expected across southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana as another round of widespread rain and thunderstorms moves in Monday into Monday night. While severe weather is not anticipated, heavy rainfall may lead to localized flooding, especially near and south of the Interstate 10 corridor.
According to the National Weather Service Lake Charles, there is a 40–70% chance of rainfall totals exceeding 1 inch, with a 15–40% chance of totals topping 2 inches. The highest probabilities for 2-inch rainfall amounts extend from Beaumont and Port Arthur east toward Lafayette and Baton Rouge.
A surface low tracking along the Gulf Coast will bring repeated showers and embedded thunderstorms Monday morning through Monday night. Forecasters say 1–2 inches of rain will be common across the region, with localized totals up to 4 inches possible in areas that experience slower-moving storms.
The Weather Prediction Center has placed the region under a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 4) for flash flooding, meaning isolated flooding could occur if heavier downpours repeatedly impact the same areas. Low-lying neighborhoods, drainage-challenged roadways, and coastal communities should remain alert.
Rain is expected to gradually taper off Monday night, leading to drier and cooler conditions by Tuesday and Wednesday before another system approaches late week.
Drivers are advised to watch for ponding during heavier rain and to avoid flooded roads.
