Lake Charles, La. – Residents across southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana should brace for another round of steamy afternoons and potentially flooding storms through Thursday as a tropical wave pushes deeper moisture into the northern Gulf. Slow-moving thunderstorms could dump heavy rain in a short time, raising the risk of nuisance street flooding in poorly drained neighborhoods.

According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, storm chances climb to 60% this afternoon and may peak at 70% Thursday. High temperatures will range from 91 to 96 degrees, but a heat index between 95 and 105 will make conditions feel more oppressive. The heaviest rainfall is expected in the afternoons, especially in cities like Beaumont, Lake Charles, Lafayette, and Crowley.

Drivers are urged to watch for water pooling on roadways and avoid travel through flooded areas. Outdoor plans should be flexible, with frequent breaks in shade or air conditioning to avoid heat illness. Winds will remain light, turning from variable in the morning to southerly at 5 to 10 mph by afternoon.

The unsettled weather may linger into Friday before a slight drying trend develops over the weekend, though scattered storms will still be possible.
