Lake Charles, La. – A wet pattern is expected to settle over Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana late this week, raising concerns about flooding as widespread showers and thunderstorms move in. The National Weather Service in Lake Charles said the highest rain chances arrive Friday and Saturday, when storms could drop two inches or more in parts of central Louisiana.

According to the Weather Prediction Center, a frontal boundary will collide with deep Gulf moisture, fueling slow-moving storms capable of heavy downpours. Forecasters have placed the region under a Marginal Risk for excessive rainfall, meaning localized flooding is possible. Low-lying areas near rivers, bayous, and the I-10 corridor may be most vulnerable to water pooling on roadways.

Temperatures will stay near the low 90s through Thursday with only isolated afternoon storms, but conditions change quickly by Friday. Cities including Lake Charles, Beaumont, and Lafayette may see thunderstorms linger into Saturday, with roads becoming slick and hazardous.

Drivers are urged to avoid flooded streets and keep phones charged in case of power outages. Rain chances taper by late weekend, but additional advisories could be issued if rainfall rates increase.
