Lake Charles, LA – The National Weather Service in Lake Charles has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch effective through 7 a.m. CDT for southwest Louisiana and parts of southeast Texas.

Forecasters say conditions are favorable for storms capable of producing large hail up to 1.25 inches in diameter, wind gusts up to 70 mph, and possibly isolated tornadoes. The watch includes Beauregard, Calcasieu, Jeff Davis, Cameron, Allen, and Vernon parishes, along with neighboring counties across the Texas border.

This system marks the first round of thunderstorms expected to impact the region today, with additional rounds possible later. Residents are urged to monitor local weather alerts and have multiple ways to receive warnings overnight.

The NWS advises moving indoors when thunder is heard, staying away from windows during storms, and avoiding travel in high wind or hail conditions.

Updates will be available through the US National Weather Service Lake Charles and weather.gov/LCH as the situation develops.
