Lake Charles, LA – The National Weather Service in Lake Charles has issued both a Wind Advisory and Gale Warning for much of southwest Louisiana and southeast Texas through 6 p.m. Wednesday, as strong winds and rough marine conditions continue across the region.
According to the NWS, northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph are expected over land, making travel difficult and posing risks to unsecured outdoor objects. Coastal areas will face even harsher conditions, with a Gale Warning in effect for waters up to 60 nautical miles offshore. Winds could reach 35 to 40 knots with seas building between 7 and 11 feet.
Forecasters warn mariners to avoid hazardous waters and remain in port until conditions improve. The advisory also notes an increased fire danger due to dry air and gusty winds.
Temperatures will turn noticeably cooler by tonight, with lows dropping into the mid-40s inland. Calmer winds and clear skies are expected to return by Thursday, followed by a mild, sunny weekend across the Lake Charles area.
