Lake Charles, LA – A Red Flag Warning has been issued for much of the Lake Charles area today, with gusty winds and dry air expected to fuel the rapid spread of wildfires. Winds are forecasted to reach 25 to 35 mph, along with a minimum relative humidity of 22 to 32 percent. The warning is in effect from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
The National Weather Service also issued a Wind Advisory for the region, with sustained winds of 20 to 25 mph and gusts up to 40 mph. Residents are urged to secure loose objects and use caution while driving. Additionally, a Gale Warning and Small Craft Advisory are in effect for coastal areas, with hazardous seas expected.
Temperatures will remain cooler through Friday, but a warming trend is forecast to begin over the weekend, bringing highs back into the 80s by early next week. No rain is expected for at least the next seven days, prolonging the fire risk in the region.
