Louisiana – Headlights glow faintly through thick gray fog this morning, and visibility has dropped so low that drivers may not see beyond a few car lengths. Along I-10 and Highway 171 near Lake Charles, conditions are already slowing traffic and raising the risk of sudden braking.
According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m., with visibility reduced to one-quarter mile or less at times. Calm winds and saturated air are allowing the fog to linger across southwest Louisiana and parts of southeast Texas.
Lake Charles, Sulphur, and Westlake are seeing the worst of it early, with patchy dense fog extending toward Beaumont and Port Arthur. Bridges and low-lying roadways are especially vulnerable. Drivers should slow down, use low-beam headlights, and increase following distance immediately.
Conditions will improve quickly after mid-morning as sunshine breaks through. Temperatures climb to around 83 degrees this afternoon, shifting the region from damp and murky to warm and bright in just a few hours.
The broader pattern turns springlike through midweek. Highs hold in the low 80s Tuesday and Wednesday under partly to mostly sunny skies. By Thursday, sunshine continues with highs near 81 degrees and light winds.
No major rain is expected through this stretch, keeping travel conditions favorable once fog lifts. However, early morning fog could redevelop in similar setups, especially with clear nights and light winds.
Stay alert during the morning drive, and allow extra time until visibility improves. Are you seeing dense fog in your area right now?
