Lake Charles, Louisiana — Strong northwest winds continue across southwest Louisiana and southeast Texas Monday as a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM, according to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles.

Forecasters say northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts reaching 30 to 40 mph are expected, particularly along and south of the Interstate 10 corridor. These winds may blow around lightweight objects, make driving difficult for high-profile vehicles, and require residents to secure loose outdoor items.

In addition to land-based impacts, hazardous marine conditions are ongoing. A Gale Warning is in effect for all coastal waters out to 60 nautical miles, while a Small Craft Advisory covers coastal lakes and bays. Marine winds are forecast to run 25 to 35 knots with gusts near 40 knots, producing seas between 4 and 9 feet. The National Weather Service advises mariners to remain in port or seek safe harbor until conditions improve.

Wind gusts are expected to gradually weaken through the afternoon, decreasing to around 20 mph later today and tonight, though breezy conditions will persist. Despite diminishing winds, cooler air behind the cold front will continue to affect the region.

Overnight temperatures are forecast to drop near freezing, with wind chill values falling into the upper 20s and lower 30s in some locations. Residents are urged to take precautions to protect pipes, plants, pets, and sensitive outdoor infrastructure from the cold.

Looking ahead, the four-day outlook shows dry conditions with gradually warming temperatures. Highs are expected to climb from the lower to mid-50s Tuesday into the upper 60s by Thursday, with lighter winds returning midweek.

Until winds subside, residents across the Lake Charles area are encouraged to remain cautious, monitor local forecasts, and heed all advisories in effect.
