Louisiana drivers are creeping through thick fog this morning as visibility drops below a mile across Lake Charles and Calcasieu Parish. Headlights reflect off a gray haze along I-10 and Highway 171, where dense pockets are cutting visibility to near a quarter mile at times.

According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Areas of dense fog will linger through the early commute before gradually lifting late this morning. Calm winds and saturated air are trapping moisture near the surface, creating hazardous travel conditions.

Slow down, use low-beam headlights and allow extra distance between vehicles. Elevated roadways and bridges can see sudden drops in visibility. Conditions may change quickly within a few blocks.

Fog gives way to mostly cloudy skies with a high near 74 degrees. A 30% chance of showers develops this afternoon. Showers and thunderstorms become more likely tonight, with rain chances rising to 90%. Some storms could produce heavy rainfall before midnight, and gusty south winds may reach 30 mph.

Sunday turns mostly sunny with a high near 72 as northwest winds increase. Washington’s Birthday stays sunny near 71, followed by midweek highs climbing into the upper 70s. That keeps southwest Louisiana 10 to 20 degrees above average through much of President’s Day week, reinforcing a strong February warm trend.
