A round of dangerous cold and gusty winds will affect southwest Louisiana and southeast Texas this weekend, prompting multiple weather advisories.

According to the National Weather Service Lake Charles, a Cold Weather Advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. Saturday through 10 a.m. Sunday for all of central, south-central, and southwest Louisiana, as well as southeast Texas. Morning low temperatures are expected to fall into the low 20s to near 30 degrees Saturday, dropping further to 16 to 23 degrees Sunday morning.

Wind chills will make conditions feel colder. Forecasters expect wind chill readings between 10 and 20 degrees Saturday morning, with values of 15 to 22 degrees Sunday morning, increasing the risk of cold-related exposure for anyone outdoors for extended periods.

In addition, a Wind Advisory is in effect from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday for portions of southwest Louisiana. South winds of 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph are expected, which could blow around lightweight objects and make travel difficult for high-profile vehicles, particularly along Interstate 10, I-49, and US-165.

The National Weather Service also notes hazardous marine conditions developing as a cold front moves offshore, with building waves and increasing winds through the weekend. Small craft operators are urged to remain in port.

There is a low chance (around 10%) for snow flurries Saturday, though no accumulation is expected at this time.

Residents are advised to dress in warm layers, cover exposed skin, limit time outdoors, and secure loose objects ahead of strong winds. Commuters and outdoor workers may feel the coldest impacts during early morning hours.
