La Salle, IL – A serious multi-vehicle crash shut down a stretch of U.S. Route 6 in La Salle County Monday morning, sending three drivers to the hospital and prompting a full traffic reconstruction investigation.
According to the La Salle Police Department, officers and firefighters were dispatched around 8:29 a.m. Monday to U.S. Route 6 west of Enterprise Drive for reports of a crash involving multiple vehicles. Responding units located three vehicles involved in the collision.
Police said the vehicles included a 2017 Buick Enclave, a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox, and a 2021 Chevrolet Malibu. The drivers were identified as a 34-year-old woman from Oglesby, a 36-year-old woman from Peru, and a 20-year-old woman from Sheridan.
Paramedics from the La Salle Fire Department immediately began treatment at the scene. Two of the drivers were transported by ambulance to OSF Hospital in Peru, while the third required extrication and was airlifted by helicopter to OSF Hospital in Peoria due to the severity of her injuries.
Preliminary findings indicate the Buick Enclave was traveling eastbound on U.S. 6 toward Enterprise Drive when it struck the Chevrolet Equinox from behind. Police said the Equinox left the roadway and rolled before the Enclave crossed into the westbound lane and collided with the Chevrolet Malibu.
Due to the seriousness of the crash, the Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit responded to assist. Authorities said U.S. Route 6 remains closed from I-39 to North 29th Road as investigators continue their work. The La Salle County Emergency Management Agency is assisting with traffic control and road closures.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information related to the crash is asked to contact Sgt. Radtke of the La Salle Police Department at 815-223-2131.
