La Porte, IN – A fatal two-vehicle collision occurred Wednesday evening on the 4900 block of US 35, leaving one man dead and another injured.
Robert J. Kampf, 31, of La Porte, was driving a 2005 Pontiac northbound on US 35 when a southbound 2016 Jeep, driven by Aaron M. Schroeder, 31, of Michigan City, collided head-on with Kampf’s vehicle. Kampf was rushed to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
According to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at 6:17 p.m. Schroeder sustained a lower-body injury but refused medical treatment at the scene.
Authorities are working to determine the cause of the collision. Toxicology results are pending as part of the ongoing investigation.
Multiple agencies, including Westville Police, Springfield Township Volunteer Fire, and the La Porte County Coroner, assisted at the scene.
Police urge motorists to exercise caution and remain alert while driving. Anyone with information is asked to contact the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office.
