La Porte County, IN – A Michigan woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash late this morning in Clinton Township, prompting an ongoing investigation by La Porte County authorities.
According to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 11:11 a.m. at the intersection of County Roads 800 South and 900 West. Deputies responded to reports of a green 2001 Ford Ranger that had left the roadway and rolled over multiple times before coming to rest in a nearby field.
The driver, identified as 31-year-old Rebecca L. Kuiper of Grand Rapids, Michigan, had been traveling eastbound on CR 800 South when the vehicle veered off the west side of CR 900 West onto the gravel shoulder. Investigators say Kuiper overcorrected, causing the vehicle to slide and eventually overturn near the intersection. She was reportedly ejected during the crash.
Kuiper was transported by ground to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced dead from injuries allegedly sustained in the crash. Toxicology results are pending, and no additional information has been released at this time.
Assisting at the scene were members of the La Porte County EMS, Noble Township Volunteer Fire Department, Westville Police Department, and multiple sheriff’s deputies including Captain Dallas Smythe and Detective Derrick Deck.
