La Porte, IN – A Portage man has been taken into custody following a shooting late Monday night in Clinton Township, resulting in serious injuries to another local resident.

According to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 9:42 p.m. to a home in the 10600 south block of CR 1150 West after reports that a male had been shot and the alleged shooter was still on the scene. Deputies arriving at the location identified 72-year-old Timothy C. Pochron as the alleged suspect and detained him without incident.

Authorities allege that Pochron shot a 63-year-old male multiple times during the encounter. The victim was initially transported by ground to a local hospital for treatment and later airlifted to a trauma center for further medical care. Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division reportedly responded to various locations overnight to assist with the investigation.

Pochron was booked into the La Porte County Jail for a 48-hour hold as the inquiry continued. Law enforcement officials presented their findings to the La Porte County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, and probable cause was established in La Porte County Circuit Court to charge Pochron with attempted murder (Level 1 felony) and aggravated battery (Level 3 felony). As of Tuesday morning, Pochron remained in custody at the La Porte County Jail.

Assistance at the scene was provided by the Westville Police Department, La Porte County EMS, and Cass/Clinton Township Volunteer Fire Department.

The La Porte County Sheriff’s Office notes that all charges are merely accusations at this stage, and the accused is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
