La Porte County, IN – Homeowner Shot After Interrupting Burglary Today

Deputies say two suspects fled after the early morning shooting.

La Porte County, IN – Deputies are investigating a violent home invasion in Fish Lake on Sunday morning that left a 66-year-old homeowner with a gunshot wound.

According to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 8:09 a.m. to the 200 block of Lakeview Drive after reports of a burglary in progress. Investigators said the homeowner entered his residence through an overhead garage door, where he encountered a man carrying rifles. That suspect fled immediately.

The homeowner then discovered a second man inside the house. A scuffle broke out, during which the homeowner was shot in the upper body. The suspect fled the scene, leaving the victim injured.

Deputies set up a perimeter and conducted an extended search of the neighborhood, but the suspects were not located. Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division are continuing the case.

The homeowner was transported to a regional hospital for treatment. His condition has not yet been released.
