
La Porte, IN – A 32-year-old man was killed late Friday night after his vehicle crashed and caught fire along Schultz Road, according to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies reported that at approximately 10:19 p.m., a black 2023 Chevrolet Corvette was traveling eastbound in the 5700 west block of Schultz Road when it veered off the south side of the roadway. The car struck two trees, a guy wire connected to a utility pole, and a wooden fence before coming to rest in a cornfield, where it became engulfed in flames.
The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was identified as Richard N. Nagy, 32, of La Porte. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the La Porte County Coroner’s Office.
Assisting at the scene were Michigan City Police, Center and Springfield Volunteer Fire Departments, La Porte County EMS, the La Porte County Coroner’s Office, and Dave’s Garage, along with multiple deputies and detectives.
The Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the crash. No additional injuries were reported.
